24 by 24 CSS pixels, or enough space around a smaller target
WCAG 2.2 rule 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) asks for targets of at least 24 by 24 CSS pixels. A smaller target passes if it has enough space around it, so that a 24px circle centred on it doesn't overlap another target. Links inside a sentence of text are excused. Bigger targets help people with tremors and anyone on a phone.
"44 by 44 CSS pixels" is the tempting wrong answer. That number is the stricter level AAA rule, 2.5.5 Target Size (Enhanced). It is still a good design goal for touch screens.
